MedStart is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and empowering medical and life science startups in the Sacramento region. Our mission is to foster innovation and growth by providing entrepreneurs with the resources, guidance, and connections they need to succeed in the rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
Team
Rich Foreman (President)
Rich is currently the COO for IGH Naturals. Previously, as founding CTO, Rich led the team that developed the CordicoShield / CordicoFire Wellness App. Cordico was honored with the Sacramento Innovation Award in 2021. After achieving a 7 digit ARR, Cordico was acquired by Lexipol in 2020. Rich has a BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Washington, an MPA from Troy State University and was an officer in the U.S. Navy. Rich co-authored his book, "Tap into the Mobile Economy." Rich's blog was listed in Top 20 Marketing Mobile Blogs of 2014. He has been featured on KCRA3, NEWS10, 1170 Tech AM PowerDrive, Business Radio Money 105.5, SiliconIndia, the Sacramento Business Journal, and the Sacramento Bee. Rich is also the Founding Director of the Sacramento Chapter of Startup Grind and served a term as Utility Commissioner for the City of Folsom. Rich is a regular contributor to TechWire.net and StartupSac.com. Rich was the Co-founder of Apptology which was named Small Business of the Year in 2014 by the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber.
Lorraine Armijos (Programs Director)
As an executive coach with a background in healthcare, Lorraine is passionate about helping leaders in the medical and life science fields build and scale impactful organizations. She specialize in coaching CEOs, physician leaders, and startup founders to translate their innovative visions into reality, drawing on 20 years of experience that began with a foundation of discipline in the U.S. Air Force and grew through driving operational excellence in complex, large-scale corporate environments. She provides the strategic frameworks for growth, leveraging her expertise to consult on strategy, scalable process improvement, and the management system development crucial for success in the complex healthcare landscape. I hold an MBA, a BA in Biological Sciences, and certifications in Executive and Professional Coaching, Change Management (Prosci) and Lean Six Sigma. Her "why" is simple: to empower and inspire the innovators and teams who are shaping the future of medicine.
Robert Groth (Secretary)
Robert Groth became a Financial Advisor in 2020, after spending over 20 years in the software, services, and hardware technology industries. He currently works at Fidelity Investments and enjoys helping families, business owners, and entrepreneurs. He has faced many of the same issues his clients encounter, both from raising a family and from helping start and grow a business.
Robert has a passion for the startup community. He has been part of six startup companies, has invested in four startups, and mentored several others. He was the Executive Director of MedsStart from 2017 to 2019 and a judge for the Sacramento Region Innovation awards from 2018 to 2021.
 
            
          Susan Williams (CFO)
Susan Williams, acting as the CFO for MedStart has had a long career in corporate law. She graduated from UCLA Law and went on to long tenures at Hewlett-Packard, Agilent Technologies, and Intel. She is currently retired, but continues to look for ways to give back to the community.
Cameron Law (Board Member)
Cameron Law is a Sacramento native who brings his passion and love for Sacramento as well as his experience in social ventures, venture capital, and economic development to the Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, as the Executive Director. He is an active entrepreneurial ecosystem-builder and is working through the Carlsen Center to make the Greater Sacramento region a premier hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. He personally values love and service and brings this intention to building the region and serving the community and its entrepreneurs.
